

Even experts do not entirely agree on who was first and there are quite a few factors that count: developing, patenting, introducing, producing, delivering… whatever, the Zenith El Primero was and still is one of the greatest chronograph movements ever made. It was at that time the first – or to be precise and not to engage long fights between collectors – one of the first automatic chronograph movement – together with the Heuer-Breitling-Hamilton-Buren Calibre 11 and the Seiko 6139. The Zenith El Primero movement was revealed in 1969. In addition, because we’re proper watch nerds here at Monochrome, we found something cool to match with this watch: matching solid silver hand-made cufflinks depicting the El Primero. This timepiece is called the Zenith El Primero 410 and for Baselworld 2015, it comes in a new limited edition with a cool blue dial (yes, blue is again is very popular this year). And when it comes with a triple calendar and a moon phase, displayed in a ‘vintage’ style and legible layout, it become an even better watch. Included is a monometallic balance that's adjusted for heat, cold, and 5 positions, a self-compensating flat balance spring, and a micrometer regulator.The Zenith El Primero is a very nice watch. It's constructed with 31 jewels, a shock absorber mechanism, and a straight-line lever escapement. The automatic calibre 410Z movement is rhodium-plated. Included is the COSC (superlative chronometer officially certified) certificate. The case, dial, and movement are all signed. The automatic El Primero movement is and it's water resistant to 30 meters (100 feet). The date aperture is between 4 and 5 o'clock, the day window is at 10 o'clock, and the month window is at 2. It has a triple calendar with day, date, and month. There is a square pushbutton chronograph with a moon phase sub dial at 6 o'clock. The dial is solid silver with applied steel Roman numeral and triangular hour markers, dauphine hands, and an outer track for minutes and a tachometer. The black alligator leather strap has a matching stainless steel buckle. The solid three-body case, fluted lugs, and rounded, stepped bezel are polished, with an exhibition sapphire crystal case back with 6 screws.
